Benson's John Raynor leads a group of six Carolina Mudcats who will play in the Southern League All-Star Game on July 14 at Five County Stadium.

Raynor will be joined on the Northern Division squad by Mudcat teammates Gaby Sanchez, Chris Coghlan, Cameron Maybin, Chris Mobley and Chris Volstad.

Huntsville had a division-high eight players named to the All-Star squad. West Tenn will have four players in the game but lost three more to the Futures Game or a promotion.

Raynor leads the Southern League with 29 stolen bases and is hitting .289 (.385 on-base percentage) in his first year at the Double-A level. He was named the MVP of the Low-A South Atlantic League in 2007.

Raynor is expected back on the field by the end of the week after pinching a nerve sliding into third base during Saturday night’s game.

Sanchez, who will start at first base, is currently hitting .314 for Carolina, while Coghlan, the starter at second base, is hitting at a .302 clip.

Cameron Maybin’s inclusion gives Carolina two of the four outfielders on the Northern Division All-Star squad. Maybin has a team-high 12 home runs on the season.

Mobley, a right-handed reliever, has 13 saves on the season with a 3-1 record and an ERA of 2.88. Volstad, another righty, is 4-3 with a 3.28 ERA and 14 starts.
