BENSON -- An undercover investigation led Johnston deputies on Wednesday to expose a working meth lab and arrest three people in connection with its use.

Deputies raided a farmhouse at 764 Byrdtown Road near Benson about 4 a.m. Wednesday morning and found components of a meth lab, Johnston County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said. Officers charged the homeowner, 33-year-old Bradford Christian Calcote, with multiple drug offenses, including possessing, selling and manufacturing illegal substances.

Amaon said Calcote was not producing meth when deputies arrived at his house. But she said officers did seize about two grams of meth and a small amount of marijuana from the home. Calcote remains in the Johnston County jail under a $300,000 bond.

Earlier, authorities went undercover at Calcote’s home Tuesday evening to buy meth from two men who bought drugs from Calcote. Amaon said officers bought about one gram of meth from Christopher Daniels, 35, and Shelton Hayes, 37, both of 20 Elmore Drive, Dunn.

Both Daniels and Hayes have been charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver meth. Daniels also faces one count of maintaining a dwelling for drugs.
